South Brisbane Cemetery

(To book tours – see here)

Where to meet
Inside the main cemetery gates off Annerley Road, Dutton Park (opposite the service station). Please try and arrive at least 15 minutes before the specified start of the tour so we can begin on time.

Where to park
Parking is available inside the cemetery. Please access via the main gates off Annerley Road and our guides will direct you from there.  The cemetery is also very close to the Dutton Park railway station, and the Park Road station is within walking distance. Bus service 196 from the city stops near the main gates on Annerley Road. There is also an Eastern Busway stop next to the cemetery. Check the Translink website for current rail and bus timetable details.

Out of respect for local residents, we request that you do not park on local streets.

Walking difficulty

  • Moderate (Grade 3) – Please be aware, given the aging nature of the cemetery, this tour involves walking [slowly] up hills predominantly over generally modified terrain [hardened earth, less than 1200mm wide], mostly clear of intrusions & obstacles. Please advise us of any relevant medical concerns prior to attending the tour.

Equipment required

  • For safety and comfort reasons, all tour attendees are required to wear enclosed footwear.
  • Strictly NO horror-themed costumes or fancy dress – we aim to ensure the spiritual and heritage values of the cemetery are respected.
  • Tour attendees are requested to bring a medium-brightness torch for the tour (powerful torches spoil the atmosphere of the cemetery at night).  We can provide a small number of torches (if required) for a $2 hire fee, to be returned at the end of the tour.

Recording

  • We are happy for tour-goers to take photographs, however no audio or video recordings are allowed during the tour.

Bad weather

  • The cemetery can be a dangerous place in wet or windy weather.  We reserve the right to cancel tours in the case of dangerous weather conditions.  All attempts will be made to contact tour-goers before 6:00pm on the day of the tour, if a tour needs to be cancelled.
  • Attendees booked on cancelled tours can reschedule for another available night.  Alternately, attendees are entitled to a refund.
